VIRGINIA ADLER MEMORIAL
POND & BIRD GARDEN
Our memorial for Virginia Adler is almost completed. The pond is in place and landscaping will start in early March. When finished, the pond will provide running water for the birds as well as a refuge for frogs and other creatures. The pond is located on the west side of the Howe House and will serve as a Memorial for Virginia Adler. Her daughter Melinda Correl funded the project.
Among other things the pond will host some species of native fish, turtles and water plants. The western side of the pond contains a bog area which will have irises and other plants that thrive in humid terrain. On the north side a 2,500 gallons/hour waterfall cascades down a rocky creek before it reaches the pond. This area produces a lot of water noise and will serve to attract birds to the water, and the nearby feeders. On the southside we installed the skimmer that will take care of collecting leaves and other floating debris. A lot of work has been put into this project that promises to add a nice touch to the back side of the building.
I will try to get updated pictures with all the rocks and the running waterfall.
