Introduction to Ecosystems

December 2, 2024

Florida is home to over 69 unique ecosystems, from coastal dunes to spring-fed rivers, lakes, and scrub uplands. Students have the opportunity to explore some of the state's most vital and productive ecosystems, along with the diverse plants and animals that thrive within them. Florida boasts many rare natural environments that are found nowhere else, supporting some of the world’s rarest plants and animals. Among these unique ecosystems are the scrub habitats of the Lake Wales Ridge and the "River of Grass" in the Everglades. This program helps students understand the adaptations many species undergo to survive in these environments.
